The Salvation Army regularly holds bazaar activities. At these bazaars, we sell donated items such as clothing, miscellaneous goods, electrical appliances, furniture, and books that people no longer need, and use the proceeds to support those in need.
Do you have items you no longer need but feel would be a waste to throw away? Why not donate them to our bazaar?
Origins of the Bazaar
The bazaar started in 1969 in Wada, Suginami Ward, as a place for "renewal of people and goods" to support the recovery and independence of people with alcohol addiction. Currently, there is also a branch in Kinshicho, Sumida Ward. Sorting and selling donated items provides important work opportunities for those aiming for recovery and independence. The proceeds support social reintegration programs for people with alcohol addiction.
Since its founding in the late 19th century, the Salvation Army has been actively involved in addressing alcohol addiction, which was becoming a serious social problem. At the bazaar, the day begins with morning worship, where staff and those recovering from addiction work together toward physical and mental recovery and growth.
Flow of Donated Items
Items donated by many people are collected in the bazaar warehouse (Men's Social Service Center). These items include clothing, tableware, small goods, books, and various other household items. Staff sort these items while wearing masks and goggles.
Items sorted by category are displayed in the bazaar sales area. We carefully arrange items to make them easily recognizable to customers. The wide variety of neatly organized items are purchased by those who need them and used in their daily lives.
